About Ave Verum Corpus
Michael J. Oczko's setting of the familiar Latin text Ave Verum Corpus is conceived for SATB choir. The music is scored for unaccompanied voices, offering a rich contrapuntal texture that allows each voice part to be heard with clarity. The composer engages with the profound Eucharistic text, which meditates on Christ's sacrifice and the sacrament. The flowing melodic lines and careful harmonic language create an atmosphere of solemn devotion, suitable for liturgical use or as a reflective concert motet. Oczko's approach allows the expressive qualities of the sacred text to resonate, supported by the dignified interplay of the four vocal lines.
