Ave Maria zart by Johann Georg Franz Braun — Lyrics
1. Ave Maria zart,
du edler Rosengart,
lilienweiß, ganz ohne Schaden,
ich grüße dich zur Stund
mit Gabrielis Mund:
Ave, die du bist voller Gnaden.
2. Du hast des Höchsten Sohn,
Maria rein und schön,
in deinem keuschen Schoß getragen,
den Heiland Jesus Christ,
der unser Retter ist
aus aller Sünd und allem Schaden.
3. Denn nach dem Sündenfall
wir warn verstoßen all
und sollten ewig sein verloren.

About Ave Maria zart
This beautiful setting of the Ave Maria text, Ave Maria zart, would be particularly appropriate for services during Advent or Marian feasts. The German lyrics address Mary as a 'noble rose garden' and 'lily white, without blemish', recounting her divine role as the Mother of Jesus. The text praises her for bearing the Saviour who redeems humanity from sin and the devil, highlighting the salvific power of Christ's blood, death, and wounds. Johann Georg Franz Braun's arrangement is for SATB choir, offering a rich and devotional musical experience suitable for congregational singing or a reflective choral offering.
