MEDLEY Annie

This vibrant Marian medley was arranged specially for the dedication of a grotto, and you can feel that celebratory energy in every line. Moving seamlessly from familiar Latin greetings into rich indigenous languages, it gathers the choir and congregation into a joyful, continuous prayer to the Mother of God.

The arrangement takes singers on a journey. It opens with a bright, rhythmic "Ave Maria" before flowing into Igbo praises, asking Mary to intercede for us just as she did at the wedding feast in Cana. From there, the medley transitions into a beautiful Edo sequence asking for her prayers, before building up to a high-spirited, rhythmic climax that declares Jesus as the mighty one ("Odogwu bu Nwa afo gi Jesu").

What makes this piece so special for a choir is how it captures the universal nature of Catholic devotion in Nigeria. By weaving together different tongues and melodies, it reflects the diverse voices of the faithful coming together as one family to honor Mary.
