About Anglicaanse Mis
Kees Doevendans’ Anglicaanse Mis for SATB voices is a contemporary setting of the Mass Ordinary in Dutch. The work opens with the Kyrie, its familiar plea for mercy sung in solemn, homophonic chords. This builds towards the Gloria, a more expansive movement that unfolds with rich harmonies and contrapuntal interest. The setting moves through the text with clarity, moving from the fervent praise of the Gloria to the intimate supplications of the Christe, Patris, Miserere nobis, and Dona nobis pacem sections. The composer’s thoughtful approach ensures that the sacred text is delivered with both gravitas and expressive warmth, making it a fitting choice for liturgical use or concert performance.
