Andreas Raselius's SSATTB motet Andreae unfolds with a rich, imitative texture, drawing the listener into the narrative. The German sacred text recounts the calling of Peter and Andrew by Jesus. As Jesus walks by the Sea of Galilee, he sees the two brothers casting their nets and calls them to follow him, promising to make them fishers of men. The music vividly depicts their immediate obedience, as they forsake their nets and follow him. The motet masterfully conveys the decisive moment of this pivotal biblical event through its intricate polyphony and expressive setting of the Gospel words.
