From the vibrant tradition of Italian secular madrigals, Orazio Vecchi’s Amor opra che puoi is written for three male voices (TTB). The text expresses a fervent plea to Love itself, urging it to ensure the singer’s enduring joy and contentment. The poet implores Love to make the beloved understand and appreciate its sweet delights, and to teach her that a life not subject to Love’s powerful reign is a life unworthy of living.
