Amor, l'arco e la rete by Pierre Sandrin — Lyrics
About Amor, l'arco e la rete
Pierre Sandrin, a composer of the French school, wrote this secular madrigal for SATTB voices. The text, in Italian, expresses a defiant lover who claims to no longer fear Cupid's arrows or nets. The speaker declares their soul, once eager for servitude, is now free from love's bonds and burns no longer. They ask that if Cupid still waits to ambush them with the same 'beautiful sorceress', she should not have given them poison and should be as virtuous as she was beautiful.
