Amor io moro

Amor io moro paints a vivid scene of intense longing. The speaker declares that love is killing them, their soul flying to paradise found in the eyes of Ortensia. They implore the beloved to return to their heart, so they might die a thousand deaths an hour, embracing the bittersweet pain of such profound devotion. This secular Italian madrigal for SSATTB voices captures the heightened emotions and word-painting typical of the genre. Giovanni Battista Locatello masterfully uses the rich textures of the six-part choir to convey the lover's escalating passion and desperate plea, creating a dramatic and expressive musical statement.
