About Amor di propria man

Horatio Colombano's Amor di propria man is a secular Italian madrigal for SSATB voices. The text paints a scene of two faithful lovers, Tirsi and Galatea, brought together by Love itself in a secluded place. They both desire to die in each other's arms. Tirsi speaks first, expressing his imminent death, to which Galatea responds with equally fervent affection. They die together with joyful hope of reuniting in the afterlife, finding fulfillment in their shared passion.
