Amor che vedi by Cipriano de Rore — Lyrics
About Amor che vedi
Cipriano de Rore was a leading composer of madrigals in the mid-16th century. His settings of Italian poetry were highly regarded for their expressive word-painting and sophisticated harmony. Amor che vedi, for SATTB voices, is a prime example of his mature style. The text, a sonnet, expresses the lover's lament to Love itself. He complains that Love, who sees all his hidden thoughts and suffering, guides him along a difficult path towards a distant goal. The lover acknowledges his weariness and the arduous journey, but finds solace in the very act of desiring, even if his longing is unfulfilled and he can only sigh for his beloved.
