Amicus meus by Mariano Garau — Lyrics
Amicus meus osculi me tradidit signo:
Quem osculatus fuero, ipse est, tenete eum:
hoc malum fecit signum, qui per osculum adimplevit homicidium.
Infelix prætermisit pretium sanguinis, et in fine laqueo se suspendit.

About Amicus meus
Mariano Garau's Amicus meus is a sacred work for SAB choir. The Latin text is drawn from the Lamentations of Jeremiah, focusing on the betrayal of Christ by Judas. The lyrics describe the treacherous kiss, the capture of Jesus, and Judas's subsequent despair and suicide. The music reflects the gravity of this narrative, offering a poignant musical setting of a profound moment in the Passion story. Garau's composition provides an opportunity for choirs to explore a significant sacred text through sensitive vocal writing.
