About Altro non e'l mio amor
Girolamo Scotto's Altro non e'l mio amor is a secular Italian madrigal for three male voices (TTB). The text describes a powerful love that is like hell itself, for hell is simply the absence of seeing God. The lover feels their own love to be hell because they are deprived of seeing the beloved, who is the only sweet good they desire. The poem concludes with a powerful plea to love itself, acknowledging its strength in making one taste hell before death.
