About Altiero sasso
Cipriano de Rore's Altiero sasso is a secular madrigal for SATTB voices, sung in Italian. The text, a powerful lament, evokes a scene of natural and historical significance, personifying a river and its banks as witnesses to ancient glory and present sorrow. It speaks of the profound sadness surrounding the departure of a beloved figure, whose absence casts a shadow over the landscape. The music would likely reflect the text's emotional depth, with intricate vocal lines and harmonic shifts characteristic of the genre. This work offers a rich opportunity for expressive interpretation, capturing the poignant imagery and heartfelt grief conveyed by the poet.
