Al alba venid

This anonymous Spanish secular song, Al alba venid, is a delightful example of a Renaissance villancico. Scored for ATB voices, it is perfect for a smaller ensemble looking for charming repertoire. The text, an invitation to a loved one to come at dawn, speaks of intimacy and quiet companionship, urging the beloved to come alone. The composer’s simple, direct melody and clear harmonic language make it accessible for choirs of varying experience. Its short, repetitive phrases and sweet sentiment evoke a tender nocturnal rendezvous, ideal for moments of reflection or lighthearted performance.
