About Advent
This setting of the hymn Advent, for STB voices, draws on a powerful Latin text that is a jubilant call to praise God. The words speak of God's marvellous deeds, his saving right hand and holy arm, and the revelation of his justice to all nations. They recall his mercy and faithfulness to Israel, and celebrate the salvation of our God seen by all the ends of the earth. The text urges all the earth to sing, exult, and make music to the Lord, with trumpets and the sound of the horn, for the Lord has come to judge the earth. The composer Oliver Holden crafts a sacred setting that reflects the grandeur and exultation of the biblical verses, moving from praise to the solemnity of judgement.
