About Adieu ! mes amours
William Cornysh was an English composer and Master of the Children of the Chapel Royal. His chanson Adieu ! mes amours is a secular work from the Renaissance, written for SATT voices. The French text expresses a lover's farewell, full of regret and a plea for forgiveness, as the singer relinquishes their love and desire. The lyrics speak of a loyal heart that has perhaps tried in vain, lamenting 'Alas! I have indeed lost my labour.' The clear harmonic language and flowing vocal lines make this a charming example of the chanson tradition.
