About Addington

Kathryn Rose's Addington is a sacred piece for SAB choir, set to a joyful English text celebrating the Nativity. The words speak of the "great God of heaven" coming down to earth, born of a Virgin, and sleeping in the manger while reigning on the throne. It describes the paradox of Jesus as a Babe lying on his mother's breast yet sitting with the Father in the skies, adored by Seraphim. The text emphasizes his role as Emmanuel, the promised Son, the Prince of Peace whose dominion shall increase. The piece draws on the spirit of shape note singing, offering a spirited anthem of praise and adoration for the Christmas season.
