About Acquaint thyself with God
Maurice Greene's Acquaint thyself with God opens with a stately, solemn mood, setting the tone for the devotional text. The SATB choir enters with clear, direct musical lines, emphasizing the contemplative nature of the scripture. The music gradually builds in complexity and intensity as the text speaks of seeking peace and laying up God's words in one's heart. Greene's setting provides a solid harmonic foundation, with moments of independent vocal writing that reflect the journey towards spiritual understanding and solace. The anthem's structure offers opportunities for expressive singing, guiding the listener through a profound message of divine assurance and the rewards of righteousness.
