ABASI KOKOT FI

"Abasi Kokot fi" (God is Calling You) is a deeply reflective Communion hymn sung in Efik. The song centers on the profound invitation to the Eucharistic table, asking the communicant to examine their conscience before receiving the bread of life.

Written for the SPPC UNICAL choir's entry in a choral festival, the arrangement uses a flowing, through-composed structure. The Soprano line carries the urgent, pleading melody, while the lower voices provide a rhythmic and harmonic bedrock that echoes the call to "come and hear."

It is perfectly suited for the Communion procession. The repeated refrain, "Andino Uwem Ono nnyin Idem esie" (Behold, the giver of life has given us Himself), grounds the congregation in the solemnity and grace of the sacrament, making it a moving piece for any Sunday Mass.
