A Boat, a boat!

John Jenkins’s A boat, a boat! is a secular canon for three male voices (TTB). The lively English text conjures an immediate scene of cheerful anticipation. "Haste to the ferry!" calls the lyricist, urging companions to embark on a journey "to be merry!" The prospect of the voyage is brightened by thoughts of laughter, song, and, of course, old sherry. The canonic structure of the music is perfectly suited to this spirit of communal enjoyment and playful pursuit, creating an engaging and spirited setting of the text.
